How to Legally Travel Abroad Visa Free

Traveling abroad "Visa-free" is relatively simple. For North Americans, many countries allow entry without a visa (see Resources) and only require a passport for entry. The customs and immigration officials will stamp the date of entry and conditions of entry into your passport, but they do not require a prepaid visa. However, travelling without an entry visa does not mean you are free to stay as long as you like. Even countries not requiring a visa will place limitations on foreign visitors, including the amount of time permitted for a visitor without a residency permit.

Instructions

    • 1

Make a list of countries you would like to visit. Place your first choices at the top of the list and less desirable destinations, further down on the list.

    • 2

Check the Department of State's website, under the section "country specific information" (see Resources). Check the visa requirements of each country on your list by checking the information of those countries under "country specific information." Cross off the countries you would like to travel to that require a visa. Decide which country you would like to travel to.

    • 3

Book a flight to your destination country and take your passport with you. Even though many countries do not require a visa, they will still require a passport for identification and to monitor how long you stay in the country.
