List of Beaches on the Dead Sea

The Dead Sea is one of the saltiest bodies of water in the world with many beaches to accommodate residents and or tourists alike. A belief that the mud on the shoreline has healing properties brings many to the area. The Jordan River is the sea's main source, but usage by a growing population is causing shrinkage from evaporation.
  1. Atraktzia, Kalia Beach

    • Atraktzia, Kalia Beach is open to the public. Features of the beach, 75 miles from Tel Aviv, include showers, services, shady areas, a snack bar and a lifeguard. Kalia Guest House offers health treatments such as massages. A water amusement park with swimming pools, water slides and spas is also on hand. Restaurants and bars are open at various times daily. Hotels in the area provide transportation to both the beach and water park.

    Ein Bokek Public Beach

    • Ein Bokek Public Beach features the biggest and most developed area along the Dead Sea. This beach is especially popular with tourists. Lifeguards are on duty and showers are available. Travelers can take in any of a number of attractions in addition to the beach like camel rides and mountain biking; a nearby spring gives the area its name. The beach's location is a 90-minute taxi or bus ride from Jerusalem.

    Mineral Beach

    • Within driving distance from Jerusalem, Israel and the West Bank area, Mineral Beach has two pools, a fresh-water pool for children and a sulfur-water pool with the fixed temperature of 102 degrees Fahrenheit (39 degrees Celsius). The sulfur-water pool gets its water from a nearby spring. Open-sided shelter pavilions and plastic chairs are available. On the beach, natural mud can be spread on the body. Locals say the mud of this beach stimulates blood circulation, strengthens hair at the roots and renews skin cells. Changing rooms, showers and cafeteria are along the beach. A gift shop sells products from the Dead Sea. The treatment room for visitors provides treatments and massages by appointment only.

    Other Beaches

    • Ein Gedi Public Beach is part of a nature reserve. Masada and other archaeological sites are very close by. Hamai Zohar Public Beach offers separate bathing for men and women. Travelers use both beaches as a day trip from Jerusalem. Amman Beach in Jordan offers facilities for changing, showers to rinse salt off at beach, and rent towels. No lockers are on hand to keep your valuables safe. Biankini/Siesta Beach, on the West Bank, is only available to guests of the beach's hostel. A grassy lawn is available and a restaurant is on site. Loungers can enjoy mud-covered sunbathing before venturing into the sea.
