Water Temperatures in the Tropics

Identified as such because of their high temperatures and high average rainfall, tropical areas are located on the coasts of oceans. The water temperature of these coastal waters varies from region to region. All water temperatures listed below are Fahrenheit degrees.
  1. South American Tropics

    • Located on the Pacific Ocean, the coastal waters in Peru vary between 70 degrees in October to 77 degrees in March. Ecuador, also on the Pacific ocean, has water temperatures that range from 73 degrees in October to 77 degrees in March.

    Central American Tropics

    • Costa Rica is sandwiched between the Caribbean and the Pacific Ocean. The water temperatures on the Pacific Ocean side range from 77 degrees in January to a high of 80 degrees in March. The Caribbean waters reach a high of 83 degrees in the summer.

    African Tropics

    • The tropical African region of Madagascar abuts the Indian Ocean. The average water temperature is 77 degrees.

    Southeast Asian Tropics

    • The Indian Ocean coast off of Thailand has some of the warmest tropical waters. 80 degrees, the lowest temperature, occurs in January. The highest water temperature, 84 degrees, occurs in June.

    Hawaiian Tropics

    • The Oahu coast off of Honolulu varies from 76 degrees in January to a high of 81 degrees in September. The Hawaii coast off of Hilo varies from 72 degrees in January to a high of 75 degrees in September.
