The IC and ICE trains run between Romania's largest cities and are the CFR's fastest and most modern trains, featuring amenities including restaurants. The trains require reservations and travelers can buy advance tickets at railway stations or CFR locations 24 hours before departure. Travelers may be able to buy tickets on the train during departure, but the price will be about three times what the station would have charged.
Rapid and Accelerat trains travel between smaller cities and towns, and travelers don't have to buy tickets for these trains in advance. Eurail notes that Rapids offer a more comfortable journey than Accelerats. Personal trains run between the most remote townships and villages, and Eurail warns that these trains are fairly uncomfortable.
A Eurail Romania pass provides travelers with unlimited transport on CFR's trains. Travelers can purchase five or 10 day passes and your rail travel doesn't have to be on consecutive days. The CFR charges an additional fee for the IC and ICE trains according to the distance traveled.
