Beaches in Holguin, Cuba

Cuba has been known for its beautiful beaches since Christopher Columbus first set foot on Cuban soil in 1492. The city of Holguin is known as the city of parks, but it also boasts some of the most beautiful beaches and water in Cuba. It is growing as a tourist destination with the addition of beach-front hotels. With its numerous beaches, it gives natives and tourists many choices of water and terrain.
  1. Playa Esmerelda

    • Playa Esmeralda, due to the deep, green water surrounding it, is known as the emerald beach. It is located in close proximity to Holguin. Cliffs and blooming vegetation surround the beach. Its coral reefs offer a great spot for snorkelers, and swimming with dolphins is also an area attraction. Sailing lessons are offered along with horseback riding on the beach. The nature reserve, Bahia de Naranjo, is located near Playa Esmeralda. Hotels on this stretch of Holguin beach include Hotel Paradisis de Oro and Sol Rio de Luna y Mares Resort.

    Playa Pescuero

    • With a length of 900 meters, Playa Pesquero is accessible by foot from the Blau Costa Verde. Lovers of shade will appreciate the lush vegetation. In the water, you can find many species of coral and other marine life. Showers, restrooms and dining can be found at the three beach hotels, Sol Club Cayo Largo, Sol Pelicano and Barcelo Cayo Largo. These hotels also provide scuba equipment for rental if you do not have gear of your own.

    Playa Guardalavaca

    • Stretching over 3 kilometers, Playa Guardalavaca is set among steep cliffs and its warm waters are turquoise in color. While the beach is divided up between private areas for Hotel Club Amigo and the Brisas Guardalavaca, a stretch of the beach is available to the public. Guardalavaca's water has a visibility up to 20 meters deep, which allows for a memorable diving experience. Along the ocean bottom, one can find barracuda, swordfish, Spanish mackerel and crustaceans as well as coral beds.

    Playa Yuraguanal

    • Playa Yuraguanal, with its 500 meters of white sand and crystal clear water, is a private man-made beach. It is home to the Turquesa resort, and it is one of the most sought-after tourist destinations in Cuba. Visitors enjoy the secluded aspect of Playa Yuraguanal as well as its highly reputed resort.
