Historic Baolis (Stepwells) of Delhi: Names and Locations

Delhi preserves several magnificent baolis (stepwells), ancient water-harvesting structures. Key examples:

1. Agrasen ki Baoli — Connaught Place (near KG Marg). Most famous, 104 steps, 14th c. Tughlaq era.
2. Rajon ki Baoli — Mehrauli Archaeological Park. L-shaped, ornate, Lodhi era.
3. Lal Gumbad ki Baoli — Mehrauli. Distinctive red sandstone dome.
4. Baoli Wali Masjid ki Baoli — Nizamuddin (inside Baoli Wali Masjid complex).
5. Gandhak ki Baoli — Near Jhandewalan. Sulfur-rich water; believed medicinal.
6. Satpula Baoli — Shahpur Jat. Seven-arched dam/baoli hybrid, Tughlaq era.
7. Tughlaqabad Fort Baoli — Inside Tughlaqabad Fort ruins. Massive, fortified.
8. Hauz Khas Baoli — Hauz Khas Village. Serene, near reservoir & madrasa.
9. Bara Gumbad ki Baoli — Nizamuddin (near Bara Gumbad mosque). Large dome.
10. Chausath Khamba Baoli — Near Jama Masjid. 64-pillared hall above.

Many are ASI-protected. Agrasen ki Baoli and Rajon ki Baoli are the most accessible and restored. Visit mornings for best light and fewer crowds.
