Elite status points are a combination of all the points you have earned from every flight you have flown with American Airlines or one of their partners. Points are earned for each flight based on the length of the trip as well as the class of travel that you chose.
When you purchase a first-class ticket, you will earn 1.50 points per qualifying mile. You will also receive 1.50 points per mile for business fare and full fare economy tickets. Discount economy class fares will earn you 1.00 point per qualifying mile, and deep discount economy class fares only earn 0.50 points per qualifying mile.
Purchase tickets from one of the eligible airlines in the program or those that have a codeshare with the airline. The ticket will have to reflect that it guarantees you a minimum mileage.
To qualify for the Platinum Executive Status, you will need to fly 100 qualifying segments on American Airlines, American Eagle or AmericanConnection or earn 100,000 qualifying miles or points during the calendar year. This does not include class of service miles or any other promotional miles or bonuses. By reaching Platinum Executive Status, you will have many benefits unavailable to other fliers.
