How do I Find the Plane Model for an American Airlines Flight?

American Airlines operates several different types of planes. If plane model is a factor in choosing which flight to reserve---or if you already have a reservation but wish to know what kind of plane you'll be taking---you can easily determine the plane model for a specific American Airlines flight. This information can help with anything from choosing your seat to deciding whether to bring your luggage as a carry-on or to check your bag.

      Direct your preferred browser to AA.com.

      Fill out the required information in the "Book Flights" tab. This includes departure and arrival cities, date and preferred time of day for the flight. If you are only searching for the plane model for a one-way flight, click the "One-Way" button near the top of this tab. Click "Go" once you have entered all the necessary information.

      Find your flight on the list that appears. Depending on the popularity of your route, this list may range from only a few flights to several full pages. If your flight has a connection instead of being direct, make sure you choose the flight where both or all segments are correct.

      Click on the "Flight Details" link below the flight numbers listed for your flight. This will bring up additional information about each segment of the flight you have selected. Immediately below the flight number, you will see a link that allows you to "View Available Seats," and directly below that link, you will see the plane model number for your flight.

      Look slightly further down the page to see the flight information for the next segment(s) of your flight, if any.
