American Airlines offers an online system that allows you to check whether a flight will be departing or arriving on time. This can help you relax if you're rushing to catch a flight that is actually delayed by an hour or more or let you know if you need to leave sooner than expected to pick up a friend or family member whose flight will be arriving significantly earlier than scheduled. If you're not at a computer at the time, you can also call a toll-free number for flight information.

Scroll down on the page if necessary until you see a section with a tab titled "Gates & Times."
Enter your flight information into the box directly below this tab. You will have the choice of entering either the flight number or the departure and arrival airports of the flight. You will also need to choose a day (today, yesterday or tomorrow) and the approximate time of the flight.
Click "Go." Click "Select" next to the correct flight if you searched by departure and arrival airports rather than flight number.
View the flight details that appear on the next screen. You will be able to see the scheduled, estimated and actual departure and arrival times as well as the terminal, gate and baggage claim information.

Say either the flight number, or, if you don't know it, say "I don't know."
Say the names of the departure city and the arrival city if you did not know the flight number, then answer whether you need departure or arrival information, and provide an approximate time of departure or arrival.
Listen to the available information about the flight.
