The Bahamas provide one of the best places to bonefish in the world. You have two ways to bonefish in the Bahamas. One is to simply wade in, or walk out into a small patch of water and cast your line with an extremely tiny, light lure. The other is to cast off from a boat. There are many daily fishing charters leaving from all over the Bahamas. Charters will provide you equipment and a well-trained guide. The guide will indicate silently (so not to scare off the fish) where to cast your line. Cast it, then move it slightly in the water until you feel it take. Once the fish is hooked, your rod may bend nearly double as the fish tries to swim away. Keep a strong hold on the rod and reel it in.
When you've got your eye on a large prize, big game fishing in the Bahamas may make your dreams come true. Predators like sharks, marlin and tuna prowl the waters. These fish do not give up without a fight -- reeling one in may take hours. Daily and multi-day charters leave from the Bahamas and sail out to areas known for large catches, such as Tartar Bank, Southeast Point and Table Top.
Another method of fishing in the Bahamas is to enter a competition or tournament. Held throughout the year to chase bailfish, wahoo and others, tournaments are open to every level of experienced angler. Over 50 world records have been set in the Bahamas. Prizes are awarded for largest catch, most catches in a specified amount of time and more. To participate, check which tournaments will be held in the time frame you'll be visiting, or plan your trip around a tournament.
