Amman Climate & Weather

Amman is the capital and largest city of Jordan. The city has a population of more than 2.5 million and is located in a hilly area of northwestern Jordan. Visitors enjoy the Amman area's scenic views and ancient Roman structures. Amman sits on a plateau at an elevation of more than 2,500 feet above sea level. The city has a Mediterranean climate with four distinct weather seasons.
  1. Spring

    • Spring begins with frequent rainfall and ends with very dry conditions in Amman. Daily high temperatures in March average close to 63 degrees Fahrenheit. The April average high temperature is 72 degrees and the May average high is 82 degrees. Morning lows average in the 40s in March and April and in the 50s during May. Precipitation in March is three inches on average, falling to 1 3/4 inches in April and one-half inch during May. March averages eight rainy days, with four days of rain in April and two days of rain in May.

    Summer

    • Amman has warm or hot weather in the summer with extremely dry conditions. High temperatures reach the upper 80s or lower 90s on most days in June, July and August. Nights are comfortable with average low temperatures of 62 degrees in June, 65 degrees in July and 65 degrees in August. Amman gets absolutely no rainfall during an average summer.

    Fall

    • Fall in Amman begins with very warm and dry weather and the chance of rain gradually increases during the season. September's average high temperatures are in the upper 80s in the city, dropping to the lower 80s in October and the upper 60s in November. Morning lows stay in the lower 60s in September, drop into the middle 50s in October and the upper 40s during November. September is often completely dry. The average rainfall in October is 1.4 inches, increasing to 2.2 inches in November. October only averages two days of rain and November averages five days of rain.

    Winter

    • Winter is Amman's wettest season. Daily high temperatures in the winter months average in the 50s. December daily low temperatures average in the lower 40s, dropping to the upper 30s in January and February. Average monthly precipitation is 3.8 inches in December, 6.8 inches in January and 3.9 inches in February. December gets eight days of rain on average, with 11 days of rain in January and in February. Frosty mornings are common in Amman and snow falls once or twice during the season.

    When to Visit

    • Tourists visit Amman during the spring, summer and fall seasons. Visitors from the Persian Gulf region and other parts of the Middle East visit Amman during the summer to escape the extremely hot conditions in their native lands. Visitors from North America and Europe find spring and fall to be the most comfortable seasons in Amman. Amman has ancient Roman ruins and museums that draw visitors throughout the year.
