WHERE IS Atlanta GEORGIA?

Atlanta, Georgia, is the capital and most populous city of the U.S. state of Georgia.

- It is located in the northern two-thirds of the state, roughly 250 miles (400 km) southeast of Chattanooga, Tennessee;

- 225 miles (362 km) southeast of Birmingham, Alabama;

- and about 150 miles (240 km) northeast of Montgomery, Alabama.

The city is the cultural and economic center of the Atlanta metropolitan area, home to more than 6 million people, and is the eighth-most populous metropolitan area in the country.

Atlanta is situated within Fulton County, although a small portion extends west into Cobb County. The city covers a total area of approximately 135 square miles (350 km²), with a population of around 506,000 people.
