How did barstow California get its name?

The city of Barstow, California, gets its name from William Barstow Strong. He was a civil engineer and surveyor who worked on the construction of the Atlantic and Pacific Railroad. In 1876, he became the chief engineer of the railroad's western division. He was so influential in the development of Barstow that it is named after him.
