What people or groups of founded Rhode Island?
The Colony of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations was founded by Roger Williams in 1636. Williams was a Puritan minister who was banished from the Massachusetts Bay Colony for his religious beliefs. He and his followers founded Providence, the first permanent settlement in Rhode Island. Other early settlers of Rhode Island included Anne Hutchinson, another religious dissenter from the Massachusetts Bay Colony, and John Clarke, a physician and theologian who helped establish the colony's legal and religious framework.
