Who discovered micronesia?

The first European to discover Micronesia was the Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan in 1521. He was the first to sail through the strait that now bears his name and enter into the Pacific Ocean. Although Magellan landed on Guam and one of the Mariana islands as part of his journey, it was the Spanish who became the first Europeans to visit Micronesia more thoroughly, establishing colonies on Guam in 1668 and Yap in 1696.
