Why is toulous known as the pink city?

The city of Toulouse in France is not commonly referred to as the "Pink City". It is actually nicknamed "la Ville Rose" (the Pink City) due to the distinctive reddish-orange color of many of its historic buildings, especially those made from terracotta bricks.
