The Coercive Acts were a series of punitive measures designed to punish the Boston colonists for the Boston Tea Party and to bolster British authority in America. The Acts include the Boston Port Act, which closed the port of Boston, the Massachusetts Government Act, which limited self-government in the colony, the Administration of Justice Act, which allowed British officials accused of crimes to be tried in Britain, and the Quartering Act, which forced colonists to house British troops in their homes.
