Lakes Near Regina, Kentucky

Fish, boat or swim on the lakes near Regina, or if you prefer to play on land, there are miles of hiking, biking and horseback riding trails that serve this southeast Kentucky town. The closest lakes to this Pike County community with more than 1,000 acres of water are found in northern Kentucky and northern Virginia, within 10 to 45 miles of Regina.
  1. Fishtrap Lake

    • Fishtrap, a man-made lake that covers 1,131 acres in a dense forest, offers visitors a chance to get on the water to fish or boat. Anglers can catch black bass, crappie, catfish and striped bass. Access the boat ramps at the Fishtrap Lake Marina, which is at the Dam Site Recreation Area. If you prefer land-based activities, there are miles of trails for hiking or horseback riding. Additional facilities include a playground, group and individual picnic sites, and a basketball court near the marina. There is no overnight camping allowed. The lake is less than 10 miles north of Regina.

    Laurel Lake and Beaver Pond

    • Enjoy an outing at Breaks Point Interstate Park, about 16 miles southeast of Regina, in Virginia, where you'll find the 12,851-acre, man-made Laurel Lake, and the 2-acre Beaver Pond. Both are stocked with bluegill and bass; the lake also is stocked with rainbow trout and catfish. Take the Lake Trail that circles Laurel Lake to fish from shore, or you can rent a boat from Memorial Day weekend to August 15. If you prefer to play on the lake, pedal boats and canoes are available to rent. Two hiking trails, playgrounds, a swimming pool open in summer, and a picnic area serve the park.

    Flannagan Reservoir

    • Fishing and water play are the main attractions at Flannagan Reservoir, a 1,143-acre lake with 50 miles of shoreline that has rock bluffs and a dense forest. Anglers catch both largemouth and smallmouth bass, walleye, catfish and carp. Bring your swimsuit, boat and skis because you can get in the water here, and have clarity in some locations of up to 40 feet. Stay overnight in the campground, which features a playground, marina, launch ramps and a visitors center. The reservoir is about 30 miles southwest of Regina, in Virginia.

    Dewey Lake

    • Discover Dewey Lake, with more than 2,200 acres for fishing and boating, less than 45 miles north of Regina, in Jenny Wiley State Park. The boat dock accommodates 153 public boats with four ramps to get in and out of the water easily. Rent a pontoon boat or canoe at the Nature Center from Memorial Day through Labor Day. If you need a fishing pole at Dewey Lake, the park has a loaner program, so you can check out equipment for free. Anglers can catch largemouth and striped bass, bluegill, catfish and crappie. You can pitch a tent or bring the RV to stay overnight in the 121-site campground. Restrooms with showers and a grocery store round out the amenities.
