FDR Park is home to Mohansic Lake and Crom Pond, both of which have facilities for fishing and boating. Anglers often catch sunfish, perch and bass in the park, but a New York freshwater fishing license is required. Boaters may rent row boats and pedal boats in the park, and visitors with a regional boating permit may launch their own rowboats, canoes or kayaks. In the winter, the lake and pond become popular spots for ice skating and ice fishing.
The pool at FDR Park is twice the size of an Olympic-sized pool and can accommodate up to 2,000 bathers. Lockers are available, but visitors must bring their own locks or buy one at the pool. No food or drink of any kind is allowed at the pool, and children under 10 years of age must be accompanied by an adult at all times. No street clothes are allowed in the pool area. Pool diapers, required for toddlers who are not yet toilet trained, are sold at the pool gate. The pool is open daily from the last week of June to the end of August.
FDR Park has 24 family picnic areas that can be rented and three stone pavilions with fireplaces that can be reserved for group events. All picnic areas have tables and charcoal grills. The park also has a playground with swings and climbing walls as well as an 18-hole disc golf course. Discs, rules and scorecards may be obtained at the park. Other amenities at FDR include several hiking trails, two food and beverage stands and two basketball courts.
Franklin D. Roosevelt State Park is open year round, weekdays from 9 a.m. to sunset and weekends from 8 a.m. to sunset. Swimming is allowed in the public pool only, and not in Mohansic Lake or Crom Pond. Visitors who rent boats in the park must make sure that all passengers wear life vests. Household pets are allowed in the park, except picnic areas, as long as they are caged or leashed. Leashes must be no longer than 10 feet. Owners are responsible for cleaning up after pets. Smoking is not permitted in the park's picnic or pool areas.
