Public Pool Parks in Yonkers, New York

With more than 70 parks on the city of Yonkers' official government website, the 18.3-square-mile city is listed as the fourth largest in the state of New York. Many of the parks feature a variety of amenities ranging from simple playground areas to ball fields and hiking trails. According to the Yonkers Department of Parks, Recreation and Conservation, the Mark Twain pool is the only public pool operated by the city. However, there are also eight separate, public pools listed in the Yonkers Yellow Pages.

  1. Mark Twain pool

    • The Mark Twain Pool is located in southeastern Yonkers at 160 Woodlawn Ave. and is part of the Yonkers Montessori Academy. The school's pool facility is utilized by the Yonkers Parks and Recreations department for public swimming programs. The pool features swim programs for adults, teens, children and senior citizens. In addition, they provide swim team events and family open swim opportunities on Friday evenings. Since the reopening of the facility in 2010, winter aquatics sessions have also been added.

    Independent Public Pools

      The only other public pool listed in Yonkers is the Yonkers Avenue Pool located on Yonkers Avenue in Nodine Hill. However, within 14 miles of the main part of the city you'll also find Indian Hill Pool, Ron Dario Swimming Pool, Windsor Park Pools, the NY City Parks and Recreation Pool, the Borough of Park Ridge Pool and the San Tropez Condominiums Pool. The independent pools are all open to public usage but have different costs, offerings and hours.

    Largest Yonkers Parks

    • Many of the Yonkers parks feature playgrounds but consult the Yonkers city website for details on a specific park.

      The largest parks in the Yonkers area, run by the city and featuring the most amenities include: Andrus Park and Playground, Bregano Park and Playground, Cerrato Park, Charlotte Street Parklet, Cochran Park and Playground, Columbus Park, Conor Park, and McLean and Central Park Ave. All eight of the parks have a capacity of more than 100 occupants and feature either a playground or sitting area and, in some instances, both. The Charlotte Street Parklet also provides hiking trails for visitors.

    John F. Kennedy Marina

    • The John F. Kennedy Marina offers the public water activity access to the Hudson River.

      While the John F. Kennedy Marina does not have a public pool facility, it is the only one of the Yonkers Parks and Recreations facilities that has both a marina and a picnic area. The marina is located off Warburton Avenue at John F. Kennedy Memorial Drive and is available for dusk-to-dawn boat launches. The public facility also offers a picnic pavilion that overlooks the Hudson River and is available for group functions.
