How to Find a Postal Number

If you send mail in the United States, it is important to have accurate address information. The street name and address, city, state and postal number or ZIP code must all be included. The ZIP code system was implemented in 1963 in order to simplify the sorting and delivery process. If you need to find the postal number or ZIP code that corresponds to your mail's destination, there are a few ways to obtain the information.

      Call the United States Postal Service at 1-800-ASK-USPS (1-800-275-8777). Press "0" to speak to a live person and ask for the required information.

      Access the Internet and go to the United States Postal Service website.

      Click on the red banner in the top left corner that says "Find a ZIP Code."

      Enter the address information on the next page. Hit the submit button and the information will appear on the next page.

      Visit the ZIP Postal Codes website to access foreign country codes.
