The State Bar of Wisconsin is a member of the American Bar Association and the entity responsible for licensing attorneys to practice law in the state of Wisconsin. For an attorney to practice law in the state of Wisconsin, the Wisconsin Supreme Court requires attorneys to join the State Bar of Wisconsin. Members of the State Bar of Wisconsin receive a State Bar number or Member ID. You can find this State Bar number for any Wisconsin attorney by using the State Bar of Wisconsin lawyer search tool.
Open the State Bar of Wisconsin lawyer search tool (see Resources).
Enter the first and last name of the lawyer whose State Bar number you want to find. If you know additional details about the lawyer, such as his city of practice, year of law school graduation, law school or license status, enter the information in the appropriate search field or select the appropriate option from the drop-down menu. Inputting additional fields will reduce the number of lawyers who appear in your search query and may make it easier to find the specific lawyer you are looking for.
Click the "Search" button to display a list of attorneys who match your search query.
Select the individual attorney whose State Bar number you want to find to display detailed information about that attorney. Scroll down to find the "Member ID" number. This Member ID number is the selected attorney's State Bar number.
