Things to See & Do Along I-20 in LA

Interstate 20 runs across the northern part of Louisiana and takes travelers towards Texas or Mississippi. Northern Louisiana offers a variety of things to see and do for children and adults including amusement parks, casinos, museums, nature settings and even a zoo. Many attractions are located in the cities of Shreveport, Bossier City and Monroe.
  1. Gardens of the American Rose Center

    • Located on 118 acres in Shreveport, the Gardens of the American Rose Center (ars.org) is the largest park in the United State dedicated to roses. Sixty-five individual rose gardens and 20,000 rosebushes are featured. The bloom season is from April until October. The gardens are open seven days a week and children under five years old receive free admission, as of April 2011. The gardens are located just off interstate 20 at exit five near Greenwood, Louisiana.

    Sci-Port

    • Sci-Port (sciport.org) is Louisiana's science center. This 90,000-square-foot property has more than 290 science, math and space exhibits, an IMAX theater, a space dome planetarium, gift shop and cafe. It is located in downtown Shreveport's Riverfront area off of Interstate 20 at exit 19-A. Sci-Port is open seven days a week and general admission is $13, as of April 2011. Discounts are available for children 12 and under, seniors, military, groups of 15 or more and Sci-Port members.

    Boomtown Casino and Hotel

    • Boomtown Casino and Hotel (boomtownbossier.com) has three levels of gaming with over 1,000 slot and video poker machines and more than 25 table games. This riverboat casino was voted best in seven categories by Casino Player magazine, including "Best Blackjack" and "Best Reel Slots". The hotel has 187 newly renovated guest rooms, several restaurants and over 1,500 square feet of event space for meetings, weddings and other events. The hotel also has free live entertainment such as karaoke and latin nights at the Sundance Cantina. Boomtown is located off of Intestate 20 at exit 19-B.

    Louisiana Boardwalk

    • Located in Bossier City in the Red River across from Shreveport, the Louisiana Boardwalk (louisianaboardwalk.com) is a shopping and entertainment destination. Visitors can enjoy outlet shopping, the entertainment district and dining on the riverfront. A hotel, arcade, comedy club and movie theater are also in the boardwalk area. Special events, such as the Bossier Parish Library Spring Festival, occur throughout the year. The Louisiana Boardwalk is located off of Interstate 20 at Exit 19-B towards East Texas Street.

    Chennault Aviation & Military Museum

    • The Chennault Aviation and Military Museum (chennaultmuseum.org) is located in Monroe and is named after Louisiana native and World War II General Claire Lee Chennault. The museum features exhibits about the general's life and his fighting squadron, the Flying Tigers. It also features an exhibit about Selman Field where over 10,000 navigators were trained during World War II, and an exhibit about the creation of Delta Airlines. Louisiana military history, as it pertains to the city of Monroe, is also highlighted. The museum is open from Tuesday through Saturday and admission is free, as of April 2011. The museum is off of Interstate 20 at exit 118-B.
