Things to See in Chicago

A trip to Chicago offers visitors an abundance of things to see. The city is packed with culture, history and family activities. Consider the weather when organizing things to see in Chicago. Winter months can be bitterly cold and summer months can get warm. Use public transportation to access the most popular sights. Driving and parking a car in Chicago can be a hassle and expensive.

  1. Skydeck Chicago

    • Visit the Skydeck Chicago at the Willis Tower, formerly the Sears Tower. Enjoy the view from the Western Hemisphere's tallest building. On clear days, it is possible to see for more than 50 miles and four states. Locate some of Chicago's best-known sights such as Millennium Park, Wrigley Field or Navy Pier from the view. Take a step off the side of the Willis Tower with The Ledge, a glass enclosure 1,353 feet above the street. Skydeck Chicago is accessible by public transportation and open every day of the year. Hours change seasonally.

Play Frisbee on the lawn, enjoy concerts, theater performances or movies. Cool off in the Crown Fountain and watch the different faces as they scroll through the design. Take a spin around the McCormick Tribune Ice Rink from November to March. Snap a few pictures of the city's skyline from the Cloud Gate sculpture, known to locals as "the bean." Stroll through the Lurie Garden, where some plants grow taller than visitors.

Now, it's an area of entertainment, learning and recreation. Take a ride on the 150-foot ferris wheel or musical carousel. Test your skills on the 18-hole miniature golf course. Visit the Chicago Children's Museum for hands-on enrichment activities. Walk through Crystal Gardens or the Smith Museum of Stained Glass.
