A historic hotel where you can still stay is the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel on Hollywood Boulevard. It is a classic hotel that was frequented by many famous guests, some of whom apparently refuse to check out! Lingering guests reportedly include Montgomery Clift and Marilyn Monroe, who liked Cabana Room 246. Spirits are also said to frequent the Alexandria Hotel and the Cecil Hotel.
The Pantages Theatre was owned by the eccentric Howard Hughes, so it may not seem all that unusual that his ghost reportedly visits it on opening nights. The Silent Movie Theatre on Fairfax Avenue reputedly has a gruesome history with multiple machine gun murders, a haunted projection room and the ghosts of two former owners constantly trolling the aisles. Potentially Hollywood's most famous theater, Grauman's Chinese Theatre is said to be haunted by actor Victor Killian who moves things around in the theater while searching for his murderer.
The Hollywood sign in Griffith Park was reportedly the cite of a suicide when an unsuccessful actress plunged to her death in the 1930s. Her spirit can be seen replaying her final act, which may be one the reasons the sign is now off limits to visitors. The ghost of a girl in a long black veil wanders the Hollywood Forever Cemetery on Santa Monica Boulevard. Since the death of actor Rudolph Valentino in the 1930s, she has been seen placing flowers on his grave every week, according to legend.
Flickering lights and slamming doors are frequent occasions on the Queen Mary's "G" deck, which was thought to be the Ship's morgue. Many female ghosts are said to haunt the ship; one allegedly can be seen diving into the pool, while another elegantly dressed spirit lingers around the ship's piano in the saloon. Utensils move around and vanish in the gallery where a cook was killed, and other strange sounds can be heard throughout the ship. The Forever 21 offices downtown are haunted by the ghost of a vanishing girl. The site may have housed a mental facility in the past.
