Its location puts it within walking distance of many Hollywood landmarks like the Walk of Fame, the Chinese Theater and the intersection of Hollywood and Vine Street. The Highlands Hollywood is open on Friday and Saturday nights with a variety of acts including live bands, live DJs and comedy shows. Situated in downtown Los Angeles amidst art galleries and glass skyscrapers, The Mayan is a unique night club that was originally built in 1927 as a Mayan-style theater. Renovated in 1990 and turned into a night club, The Mayan offers a mix of salsa, reggaeton, merengue and other Latin musical styles. Since there is no guest list, admittance is somewhat exclusive. Guests dressed in formal evening attire are guaranteed entrance. The Mayan is open to guests over 21 on Friday and Saturday nights at 9 p.m., with the cover charge increasing after 10:30.
