Lesbians in the Los Angeles area have abundant options when it comes to finding nightclubs that cater to their lifestyle. These clubs have all-girl nights and often host events staged by local lesbian organizations. Many of these clubs accommodate gay men on certain evenings. These nightclubs offer dance floors, music played by DJs, and female go-go dancers on all-girl evenings.
The Girl Bar is an all-lesbian social club and organization opened by Sandy Sachs and Robin Gans in 1990. They opened the club after moving to Los Angeles from New York. Since then they have expanded to Phoenix, Chicago, and Palm Springs, California. Sachs and Gans also co-founded the annual Girl Bar Dinah Shore Weekend, billed as the largest lesbian event in the world. Girl Bar events emphasize sexy DJs and employees, and are held at Ultra Suede, which shares space with the Factory night club. The building has a smoking patio, plush couches, a dance floor, and a stage. Girl Bar features comedy shows and gay pride events, along with frequent performances by female go-go dancers.
