The Viper Room is arguably the most famous nightclub in Los Angeles because of a number of controversies surrounding it as well as actor Johnny Depp's association with the venue. The Viper Room, located on Sunset Blvd., was the location of the tragic overdose death of young actor River Phoenix at the age of 23. The club survived that tragedy thanks, in large part due to the popularity of co-owner Johnny Depp.

The Whiskey A Go-Go remains a part of Los Angeles culture thanks to the celebrities who frequent it. The club made an appearance in the 1967 film "The Graduate," a club that became known for the Go-Go girls dancing in a cage above the crowd. Possibly the best-known concert at the Whiskey was The Doors, depicted in the Oliver Stone biopic of the band. Other bands that have played at the Whiskey include Janis Joplin and Led Zeppelin.
