How to Get to the Magic Kingdom in Orlando, Florida

The ideal route to Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom will depend on your mode of transportation to the Orlando area and your planned accommodations. Convenience will vary, with transportation being the most streamlined for those staying at the Walt Disney Resort. It is less convenient making your way there when staying at a private residence or other location offering no transportation.

Research transportation options at your designated place of stay. For those staying at one of the more than 20 Disney resort hotels, complimentary transportation is offered to the Magic Kingdom in the form of monorail, bus or ferry. For those staying in an Orlando-area hotel, many offer complimentary shuttle service to the Walt Disney World Resort. If you are staying at a hotel without complimentary transportation, at a vacation villa, or a private residence, car rental may be your most economical option. Several car rental companies offer service at the Orlando airport.

Determine if the transportation options at your place of stay meet your needs. Hotel shuttles offer limited service times and stops. If your shuttle drops off in a place other than what you require, then internal Disney transportation is a free option. With it, shuttle buses can transport you from one theme park to another, from one theme park to any Disney hotel, or from virtually any Disney location to another with an appropriate bus transfer.

Arrange for transportation beforehand, if necessary. For those flying into Orlando and staying at a Disney resort hotel, complimentary Disney Magical Express Transportation will take you between the airport and hotel. If you arrive before check-in, the Disney Magical Express service will deliver your luggage directly to your room. From there, a bus, ferry or monorail can transport you to the Magic Kingdom. While Disney Magical Express Transportation is free, it does require reservations. On the other hand, hotel transportation usually does not require advance reservations.

Be aware that although the Magic Kingdom may have extended hours or special events, hotel transportation other than that offered by Disney may not provide transportation during these times.
