Girls can join the Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana and boys can join the Boy Scouts of America Shawnee Trails Council. Girl in Kindergarten through 12th grade who join the Girl Scouts are grouped by age. Boys from first to fifth grade can join the Cub Scouts. If the boys are11 years old or are at least 10 and have finished the fifth grade or are at least 10 and have earned the highest award in Cub Scouting, "Arrow of Light," the boys can join the Boy Scout program. Scout activities include attending meetings, going on field trips, camping and participating in service projects that help their community.
Children in Madison can join team sports in the Hopkins County Family YMCA, including soccer, basketball, tackle football, and T-ball. Kids ages 5 to 10 years old are grouped by age to be a part of the YMCA Hurricanes swim team. If the kids don't want to be part of the team but want to learn how to swim, swimming lessons are also offered.
Kids can play a nine- or 18-hole round of golf in the City Park Golf Course. Season passes and daily green fees are available as well family rates. College students under 21 years old can get a youth membership with proof of age and college ID.
Madisonville has a summer recreation program where children between the ages of 6 and 17 can enjoy leisure and recreational activities. Activities are divided by age group with kids in the first through fifth grades in one group and kids in the sixth through 10th grades in another. The children meet Monday to Friday and participate in activities such as playing games, creating arts and crafts, watching movies, listening to guest speakers, swimming and going on field trips. Free lunch is provided by the Hopkins County Family YMCA.
The Glema Mahr Center for the Arts offers arts education programs for kids. Beginning in March, students in fourth through eighth grades be a part of the Glema Center Youth Chorale. Kids who love to sing will attend rehearsals once a week through the school year. Summer Arts Academy is the center's arts-related student camps where kids in kindergarten to second grade, third to fifth grade and sixth to 12th grade are grouped together and meet to work on art projects such vocals, choreography, rehearsals and working on set, props, and costumes to prepare for a performance on the evening of the final day. The Glema Mahr Center for the Arts also hosts performances especially for children. Past performances have included, "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie," "The Princess Who Lost Her Hair," and "Cows Don't Fly & Other Known Facts".
