Montreal Kid's Activities

Montreal is the heart of Quebec. Located on the St. Lawrence River as it meets the Ottawa River, the city welcomes a great number of visitors year round. Many of those visitors happen to be children, and for them, the city is well equipped to both entertain and educate in a variety of ways.
  1. The Biodome

    • Start off your day by taking the kids to the Montreal Biodome. The Biodome is an indoor zoo that is divided into four sections. Housed in a former bicycle velodrome for the 1976 Olympics, this space makes for an educational and entertaining way to start the day.

Stroll with your children through four ecosystems in one day. The Biodome is divided into the Laurentian Forest, a replica of North American wilderness; the Tropical Forest, mimicking a South American rainforest; the Saint Lawrence section, a marine habitat designed with the Gulf of the Saint Lawrence River in mind; and also a polar area devoted to both the arctic and antarctic.

    La Ronde

    • Let the kids cut loose for awhile by taking them to La Ronde. La Ronde is Quebec's largest amusement park and has 39 rides to choose from, including some rather terrifying roller-coasters. Kids are well represented here with numerous rides created with them in mind. Air Papillon, for example, is a giant butterfly that swings the little ones gently back and forth.

Watch their jaws drop to the floor as they watch the Dive Show. The Dive Show employs performers experienced in acrobatics, stunts and high platform synchronized diving. If you plan to attend, make it a point to purchase your tickets for one of the shows combined with fireworks.

    The Planetarium

    • Step in to deep space at the Montreal Planetarium. Here you will find opportunities to stargaze, inspect the innards of black holes and explore the solar system with the planetarium's high quality sky simulations. Though this is great for kids, it is equally so for mommy and daddy as they are sure to gain a few moments peace as their kids are lured in to the various exhibits and films.

Plan to see one of the short film presentations. Though these films rotate, each is well worth the time. Regular shows include Telescope: Passport to the Stars and Our Galaxy: The Milky Way. The planetarium also produces many multimedia shows that are worthy of your time. The Quest for Galactium is one and follows two young children as they explore the galaxy and all its wonders.
