Kid's Activities in North Shore, Massachusetts

The North Shore of Massachusetts is a large area to the north of Boston which stretches to the New Hampshire border. Wealthy towns such as Salem, Beverly, Gloucester, Rockport and Marblehead are some of the major locales of the area. Dating back to the 1600s, the area has a rich history and many museums can be found in the area that celebrates it. If you're visiting the area with your children, there are many family-friendly activity options to consider. From farms to fun parks, the kids are sure to stay occupied.

  1. Cider Hill Farms

    • Cider Hill Farms is a family-run business open from May through November. Take the kids out for a day to learn about where food comes from. You can pick your own fruits and vegetables. Depending on the season, peaches, apples, strawberries, plums, raspberries and pumpkins are available. In the fall, kids should have a blast on the hayrides and in the corn maze. Be sure to visit the farm store where you can observe a working bee colony and taste some of the honey produced on the farm. Also on site is an animal barn with pigs, goats and egg-laying chickens.

    Joe's Playland

    • If you have teens and want a night to yourselves, consider dropping them off at Joe's Playland in Salisbury. Perfect for younger kids as well, the 10,000-square-foot location includes classic video games, pinball, kiddie rides, racing games, skeeball and bingo. Each game gives you the opportunity to earn tickets which can be redeemed at the end of the night for a prize. Take silly pictures in the photo booth or visit the snack bar which serves ice cream, flavored slush, candy and popcorn. The kids are sure to be occupied for hours here.

    Witch Dungeon Museum

    • The North Shore area town of Salem is famous for its history with witches. If you have older kids or brave, young ones, visit the Witch Dungeon where you'll see a live reenactment of the witch trial of Sarah Good, using an original transcript as the dialogue. From the minute you enter the museum, you are transported back in time to 1692. After the reenactment, take a guided tour of the dungeon, Gallows Hill and a re-created period village. Visit during October for special events related to Halloween.
