Every year, from June to November, kids can go whale watching on Stradbroke Island. See humpback whales pass along Australia's coastline as they migrate from Antarctica to breed and calve near the Great Barrier Reef. The best vantage points for children to see the whales are on the North Gorge Walk; at the Frenchman's Bay end of Timbin Road; Cylinder Headland; Stradbroke Island Beach Hotel and from the beach behind the breakers midway down Main Beach. Additionally, kids can also see dolphins, turtles and manta rays from Point Lookout and dugongs in Amity Point.
Stradbroke Island's beaches and lakes offer kids the opportunity to participate in many water activities. Kids can go swimming, canoeing, kayaking and enjoy other water sports in the Keyholes, a 4.5 kilometer freshwater system of lakes and lagoon. Many beaches are suitable for kids to go swimming and enjoy other activities. Cylinder Beach has smaller waves so kids can go surfing and in Deadman's Beach and Frenchman's Beach, kids can hunt for crabs and collect seashells.
Kids can go camping with parents in many of the beaches in Stradbroke Island. Kids will enjoy playing in the playground in Adder Rock. Cylinder Beach also has a playground and kids can enjoy fishing and swimming. Bradbury's Beach and Amity Point are also good locations for fishing and has calm waters suitable for swimming. Cook barbeque in campsites with barbeque pits including Amity Point, Thankful Rest, Cylinder Beach and Adder Rock. Some beaches allow pets, have toilet facilities and have powered and unpowered sites.
