The North Carolina coast has miles of shoreline and many beaches, islands and communities, such as Nags Head, the Outer Banks, Ocracoke Island, Ocean Isle and Wrightsville Beaches, and Bald Head island, where vacationers can rent cabins and cottages. People who vacation at North Carolina’s beaches enjoy kayaking and canoeing, fishing, birdwatching, golfing, biking or just relaxing and playing at the beach. The Zillies cabin was designed as a couples-only vacation retreat. The homeowners provide bicycles, a kayak, beach chairs and umbrella, coolers, gas/charcoal grills, flat-screen TVs with surround sound, Bose stereo systems with iPod docks, a large DVD library and free Wi-Fi. The cottage also has a fully equipped kitchen plus a washer and dryer, one bedroom with a queen bed, one bathroom and an outdoor shower. The cabin is a short walk from an uninhabited beach that stretches for 13 miles.
The weekly rate in 2010 ranged from $575 to $1,145 per week depending on the season, with May 29 to Oct. 1 being high season.

Oceans Whisper is a four-bedroom, two-bathroom beach cabin with an ocean view from the back deck. The air-conditioned cottage also has a covered furnished deck, fully equipped kitchen, washer and dryer, Internet access and color cable televisions with VCR and DVD players. The rental rate was $950 per week in 2010.

The Sand Crab has three bedrooms and two bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchen with new appliances, wood-burning fireplace and 52-inch television in the great room, an open floor plan with a dining area, and lots of space. This shabby-chic cabin, steps from Wrightsville Beach, is family friendly and offers a kids' dorm with a nautical theme that sleeps up to six, has its own bathroom and 40-inch television and is located on the second floor next to the reading loft.
The beach, pier and 2.5-mile loop around the island are steps from the cabin. The cottage has a deck and an outdoor grill, beach toys, chairs, umbrella, cooler and bikes.
The Sand Crab is dog-friendly and provides a crate, leashes, food bowls and doggy bags, and it has a fully fenced yard. The pet fee is $250, and two well-behaved dogs are allowed.
Weekly rental rates as of 2010 ranged from $1,000 off-season to $2,200 during prime season.
