Places to Have Fun in Atlanta

Founded in 1837, Atlanta has grown to become a progressive and multicultural city. There are many restaurants as well as artistic and cultural events that visitors can take advantage of while in the city. Depending on your interests you can take in a visit an aquarium, eat at a Brazilian steakhouse, see a museum dedicated to Martin Luther King Jr or go to the symphony.
  1. Martin Luther King Jr.

    • At the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Site, visitors can tour the birthplace of the famous civil rights leader, as well as Ebenezer Church, where his father preached, and King's grave site. Separately, the King Center is visited by more than a million people each year. It has as one of its missions to train leaders in nonviolence. It maintains the King Library and Archives and also is involved in various projects which promote diversity.

    Restaurants

    • Besides serving traditional Southern dishes, restaurants in Atlanta serve international fare. For example, Nikolai's Roof, in the Hilton Atlanta, is an elegant restaurant that serves Russian and French food. Along Buford Highway, there is an assortment of restaurants with international cuisine. The Fire of Brazil is a steakhouse which offers not only steak, but also pork, lamb and chicken. In addition, Rincon Latino serves Central American food, Macchu Picchu serves Peruvian food, and Chef Lui offers Chinese cuisine. Establishments serving Korean, Mexican and Vietnamese dishes, among others, can also be found on Buford Avenue.

    Atlanta Symphony Orchestra

    • Around since 1945, the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra is one of the nation's top orchestras. For those interested in music, the symphony hosts various well-known artists in classical and other genres of music. Artists have included violinist Joshua Bell and singer Tom Jones. In addition, there are concerts geared toward young people, and buffet meals can be enjoyed before the SuperPOPS concerts and Delta Classical concerts.

    Georgia Aquarium

    • The Georgia Aquarium has water-themed shows and programs. Unlike Seaworld, there is more of an educational emphasis at the aquarium. Visitors who are 12 or older can participate in a dive with whale sharks, and there are workshops for grade-school students. Meanwhile, there are also lectures by marine scientists and exhibits that visitors can experience.
