Kansas City is the second largest city in Missouri. It is on the western edge of the state, three hours from St. Louis. Kansas City also overlaps into Kansas, but is considerably smaller than on the Missouri side. Kansas City is perhaps best know for its multiple barbecue restaurants, but there is much more to the city, especially in the summer month of July.
Arguably the most popular past-time in July in Kansas City is baseball--more specifically, the Kansas City Royals. The major league baseball team plays at the newly-remodeled Kaufmann Stadium. In July 2011, the Royals will play 10 games at home against Tampa Bay, Chicago White Sox and the Detroit Tigers. Tickets are available on the Royals website and at the Kaufmann Stadium box office. Kansas City is also home to the Kansas City Sporting major league soccer team which will play July 9, 23 and 30, 2022 at Sporting Park.
The best farmers market in Kansas City is the City Market. Playing host to many events, the city market is a summer hot spot for residents and tourists alike. Available at the market are locally grown fresh fruits and vegetables. In July, the market features the Booms and Bloom festival.
The Starlight Theater in Kansas City is the country's largest outdoor theater and hosts many of Broadway's biggest musicals. Also, the Shakespeare festival at Southmoreland Park plays host to the Merry Wives of Windsor for five dates in July 2011. Another option is to check out is the Crown Center which plays movies outdoors on Friday nights.
Available year round, but an even bigger attraction, are the many restaurants offered in Kansas City. Country Club Plaza is a hub for many of these restaurants.
