Quakertown, Penn., located in Bucks County, holds numerous craft fairs and art shows throughout the year. One of six boroughs in Bucks County, along with Haycock Township, Milford, Richland and the boroughs of Richlandtown and Trumbauersville, Quakertown boasts a residency of 9,000. With an abundance of festivals, art shows and craft fairs, Quakertown offers crafters unique and interesting wares.
Arts Alive takes place once a year, and it’s a juried artisan and craft show. The event includes children’s rides, live music, entertainment and a food court. A popular street festival, it includes over 100 booths displaying art and crafts that embody the essence of the county. The festival is composed of two main divisions, one for fine arts and one for crafts. Artists and crafters can only enter original, high quality handcrafted work. The work the crafter exhibits must appear identical to the application's photograph, and the artist must remain by the exhibit for the entire day. Prizes in both Fine Arts and Craft divisions are awarded in the form of cash, and an additional prize is awarded to the art, craft, artist or crafter who best emodies the essence of Upper Bucks County.
This annual event takes place the Saturday before Memorial Day weekend, beginning with a Friday night barbecue and campfire program. If you wish to attend the Friday night festivities, you need to RSVP. Summerfest takes places at Men-O-Lan Christian Camp and Retreat Center. Summerfest Arts and Crafts Fair has free admission, a pancake breakfast, games, prizes, activities for the kids and an auction. This event helps to support families in need, as well as helping to send children to camp.
This festival takes place in October, and includes crafters, vendors, food, games for the kids and a raffle that offers up items each vendor has donated, instead of paying a registration for their craft booths. The festival includes live music to entertain, an animal rescue group, antique airplane show and rides, and country line dancing. This event goes ahead rain or shine.
While not a craft show or fair, the Quakertown Farmer’s Market and Flea Market boasts plenty of vendors and crafters. Open year-round, the market contains 300 outdoor and 100 indoor booths, a bingo hall, and provides a great place to purchase gifts and mementos of a visit to this beautiful town.
