Williamsport, the county seat of Lycoming County, Pennsylvania, is home to the Bastress Mountain Winery, Clyde Peeling's Reptileland, the Hiawatha Paddlewheel Riverboat and Knoebel's Amusement Resort. It is also home to several annual craft shows where local artisans can sell their homemade items. Those willing to travel elsewhere in Lycoming County will find more craft shows in towns such as Bellefonte and Hernadon.
Held in the spring (usually sometime in March) at the Williamsport Area High School, this one-day event offers a variety of items for sale including handcrafted and retail items, fine arts and crafts and home-based business vendors such as Mary Kay Cosmetics. Candles, purses, jewelry, pottery and wreaths are all available for purchase, as well as Easter-themed items if the craft show falls before the holiday.
Held in late November, this one-day craft fair also takes place at the Williamsport Area High School. While the spring event supports the high school football team, this one raises funds for the baseball team. Over 100 local and regional artists and crafters participate and sell items such as jewelry, home decor and garden decor.
This three-day quilt and craft show is held biennially in the odd-numbered years at the Penn College Field House. It is a specialized craft show focusing on quilts made by the over 100 members of the Tiadaghton Quilt Guild. Quilts and quilting supplies such as sewing machines, fabric and patterns are on sale, while antique quilts are on display and demonstrations of quilting techniques take place throughout the day. Admission to the show is $5 for adults and $3 for students, while children 12 years and under can attend for free (prices as of 2011).
Held just 45 miles away from Williamsport in the town of Hernadon, this annual one-day craft show takes place in March at the Line Mountain Junior/Senior High School. Jewelry and handmade items are available from dozens of local and regional vendors and concessions are provided by either the boosters or by local area restaurant sponsors.
This multi-day August event is held 55 miles from Williamsport in the town of Bellefonte. Downtown is opened up to live entertainment, food vendors and artists and crafters selling jewelry, handmade crafts, photos, paintings, sculptures and woodwork. Children can participate in puppet making, bug stamp art and making their own puzzles, while hungry participants can eat pizza, ice cream, hot dogs, shaved ice, crepes, gyros and sandwiches.
