Casino gambling became legal in Michigan in 1996. Since that time, dozens of casinos and casino resorts have been constructed around the state. Situated on the north side of downtown Detroit, the 30-story Greektown Casino offers 100,000-square feet of gaming space. Included are more than 2,500 slots and video poker machines, a variety of table games and a poker room. The all-nonsmoking property also features 400 guest rooms and suites and three restaurants, including an international buffet and a sports bar.
Located in southwestern Michigan, the Four Winds Casino and Resort offers a 130,000-square-foot casino, complete with 3,000 slot machines, a high-stakes slots area, table games and a poker room. Adjacent to the casino is a 165-room hotel, which offers private, relaxing waterfalls in some guest suites. The resort also has four restaurants that include a steakhouse, buffet and coffee shop as well as a fitness center and shopping arcade.
