Harris is a small community in the Harris Township of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Located in Menominee County near the Wisconsin border, the area offers plenty of attractions for visitors. This includes DeYoung Family Zoo, Kleinke and Shakey Lakes Parks, and the waters of Bark River and Lake Michigan. Other area attractions include Wells State Park and Hiawatha National Forest. Harris is also home to Chip’s-In Indian Casino and is a short drive to several other Native American casinos.
Chip’s-In Island Resort and Casino in Harris is run by the Potawatomi tribe of the Hannahville Indian Community. The casino is open 24 hours a day offering a variety of gaming options including bingo, craps, roulette, blackjack and more than 1,400 slot machines. Chip’s-In also has poker games daily as well as poker tournaments. For guests staying awhile, there is a hotel and an RV park. The hotel has an indoor pool and is open year round, but the RV park is only open May through November. Casino guests have several dining options. Firekeeper’s Restaurant offers casual dining, Beachcomber offers fine dining, and both Coral Reef Grille and Bingo Snack Bar sell soups, sandwiches and light fare. Kewadin Casino Manistique is 67 miles from Harris in the town of Manistique. One of five casinos run by the Saulte Tribe of Chippewa Indians, the 25,000-square-foot casino offers a variety of gaming choices, including slot machines and table games such as blackjack and poker. Guests can enjoy a meal at Mariner’s Cove Restaurant or check out Team Spirits Bar for a drink or to catch their favorite team in action. Kewadin Casino Manistique is typically open 24 hours a day but during winter the casino’s hours may vary due to bad weather. The casino has an RV park which is open from May through October.
