The town of Clinton, Connecticut traces its history back to 1663 when it was part of New England. Back then, life centered around activities such as fishing, farming, shipbuilding and church. The main beach of the Clinton area is Clinton Town Beach. Not far away from Long Island Sound, this beach provides beautiful views of the Clinton Harbor. About two miles from the Clinton area is the beautiful Hammonasset Beach State Park. Hammonasset Beach, which was founded in the 1920s, attracts more than a million people each year. The two miles of beach to swim, walk, fish and surf offers something for everyone.
The on-site nature center also offers programs and activities for visitors on a limited basis. More than 550 campsites are available to visitors.
Just 15 miles from Clinton on the Long Island Sound, is the beautiful Rocky Neck State Park. What sets it apart from all other beaches is its varied terrain which provides the possibilities for exciting hiking adventures as well as scenic views.
Picnickers will enjoy the large stone pavilion which overlooks the beautiful beach. For those interested in camping overnight, Rocky Neck State Park offers over 160 wooded and open campsites within walking distance of the beach.
