Gay Bars in Reading, Pennsylvania

Reading, Pennsylvania, is a mid-size town about an hour's drive from Philadelphia. Reading prides itself on its history, entertainment and culture, including a few gay bars and gay-friendly bars and restaurants. Furthermore, each year it hosts its own Pride Festival, in which many local organizations, bars, restaurants and hotels participate and celebrate the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) community in Reading and Berks counties.

  1. Dan's Restaurant

    • Dan's restaurant opened in the Penn's Common Historic District of Reading, Pennsylvania in 1989. It was opened as an alternative eating establishment in the Berks County restaurant scene, serving contemporary American cuisine with a French influence. Dan's Restaurant also boasts an extensive wine list. This sophisticated, GLBT-friendly eatery has a brunch and dinner menu that changes weekly; and beginning in the fall of 2010, it will host themed dinner and wine and cheese tastings. Dan's restaurant is open from Wednesday through Saturday.

    Red Star Saloon

    • This lively bar in the heart of Reading caters distinctly to the GLBT community and is considered by some to be the only gay bar in the city. This longstanding bar features a full bar and hosts karaoke, dancing and special events. Copies of the Valley Gay Press are also available here.

    The Stokesay Castle

    • The Stokesay Castle is an upscale, gay-friendly restaurant that serves brunch, lunch and dinner. It also has a bar with an extensive wine list and their "Lord's Pub" Menu that features traditional pub fare with a contemporary, sophisticated twist, from classic hot wings to a crab and chicken quesadilla to sliders on brioche rolls. It's open Tuesday through Saturday, with a Sunday brunch from 11:30 AM to 3 PM.
