The city of Granbury is located on Lake Granbury in Hood County, Texas. The city is a tourist town that hosts events, whether one-time or annual, every month of the year. Home to the Acton State Historical Park, Hood County Museum and Railroad Depot Museum, visitors to Granbury will find not only interesting attractions, but many exciting events for the entire family to enjoy.

  1. Fall Festival

    • Held each year in the third week of October, the Harvest Moon Festival is held in Granbury's downtown historic district. The entire family will enjoy hundreds of arts and crafts, a scarecrow contest, carnival rides and hayrides, a pumpkin-carving contest, an antique engine and tractor show and a pecan bake off. The event also features a pie and hot dog-eating contests. No admission is charged to attend this two-day festival.

    Holiday Festivals

    • On its 28th year in 2011, the annual Candle Light Tour of Homes is a three-day event held in December. The event features an opening concert followed by an evening tour of historic homes and buildings. The following days, enjoy more holiday musical guests, afternoon home tours and carriage rides and be greeted by strolling carolers. Tickets are sold per person at the Nutt House Hotel and are valid for all three days of the tour.

In the month of November, Night of Lights will celebrate it's 21st year in 2011. This country Christmas celebration is an annual event that celebrates the birth of Jesus and features a parade with lighted floats. The parade route is lit by candles and begins in the evening and also features musical entertainment. Nearby merchants stay open until late at night for shoppers.

    Spring Event

    • General Granbury's Birthday Celebration is an annual celebration held in March. On its 32nd year in 2011, the event features its main event--a bean, ribs and brisket cook-off. This two-day outdoor event, which is a celebration for the town's namesake, General Hiram B. Granbury, also features arts and crafts, a parade, food vendors and a children's area in Granbury's downtown historic square.

    Late Spring and Summer Celebrations

    • Take the whole family to the annual Old-Fashioned 4th of July Celebration to see arts and craft booths, a car show and a hometown parade. Try different kinds of food, join the decorated bike contest and play old-fashioned games such as a sack race and egg toss. See 1940s style costumes, decor and antique military vehicles in the Granbury Resort Conference Center and watch wild-cow milking, calf-branding, mugging, pasture roping and team penning during Ranch Rodeo in the Reunion Grounds. On July 4, the last day of the three-day celebration, see fireworks over Lake Granbury.

The Memorial Day Hometown Fair, Picnic & Cook-off is a three-day even held in May. This event features arts & crafts vendors, games and entertainment for the entire family. Don't miss the Memorial Day parade, the car show and of course, the fajita, hamburger, stuffed peppers and salsa cook-off. The cook-off is open to amateurs and professionals.
