The July Jubilee is perhaps the largest event in Brady, and it is certainly the oldest. In 1926, the townspeople gathered on July 4 to celebrate the opening of Richards Park, which had just been completed. The celebration was such a success; they renamed it the July Jubilee, and it has been held every year since the first weekend of July. Whether the Jubilee falls exactly on the fourth is not a big concern to the people of Brady. The festival is three days of music, dance contests, food and fun. There is a huge fireworks display on the last night. Richards Park is along Brady Creek and has been a city-maintained park since 1926.
The first weekend of September is the World Championship Goat Cookoff, held the first weekend of September. Barbecue is big in Texas, but the goats are the twist that makes Brady unique. Thousands of people come to watch and partake as more than 150 cooking teams battle for the world goat barbeque title. Goat, as well as other types of barbeque, is served through the weekend, and the championship trophy is awarded at the end. There is also music, arts and crafts, and contests such as washer and horseshoe pitching contests. This festival has been a yearly event since 1973.
In March of 2011, Brady was to have hosted its 22nd Heart of Texas CMA Celebration. This is part of the Texas Country Music Association yearly tour, and features top country stars from various eras. Much of the music is country classics. A welcome party and a dance, along with the concert for this one-day event, are held at the Davenport Civic Center in Brady.
Brady has many other events throughout the year. Texas Wildlife Supply holds a predator-calling contest at its building in downtown Brady. Trade days are held at Richards Park at various times through the summer, where you may trade about anything you like. The Brady Chamber of Commerce hosts a Hunter Appreciation Dinner in November. The Chamber also puts on a "Christmas in the Heart" event early in December, which involves a lighted memory walk at Richards Park, featuring large lighted decorations. There are carriage rides, pictures with Santa and snacks.
