Most American states have plenty of places, from annual events and shows to museums and natural attractions, where field trip organizers can take their groups, whether children, seniors or anywhere in between. Georgia is no exception, and field trips in October can take advantage of the many fall-related festivities taking place during the month.
Those looking to arrange a trip in the North Georgia region should consider this attraction in the small town of Cleveland, which is literally set in a field. The corn maze is a challenging arrangement of crops designed to puzzle visitors as groups seek to find the correct path around the maze. The corn maze consists of some three miles of pathways, and the attraction as a whole is located on eight acres of land. Also appealing here are the picturesque mountains and glades of pasture that surround the maze.
The Georgia National Fair is an annual event that aims to explore the agricultural industry, a sector of great importance to Georgia. Held each October at the Georgia National Fairgrounds in Perry, the event lasts for roughly two weeks during which time it hosts live music, performing sea lions and other entertainments, as well as a number of agricultural exhibitions. These displays, which include demonstrations of crafts such as wool spinning, aim to entertain and educate visitors about agricultural processes. The Fair also offers opportunities for visitors to view livestock and animals such as rabbits.
Pumpkins are a common and much-loved sight in October, and a visit to a pumpkin showground is bound to delight. Here visitors can choose the pumpkin they’d like directly from the vine and take it home as part of a pumpkin tour which also includes a trip to a petting zoo, a visit to an educational science center and a Halloween-themed hayride. The attraction also boasts a picnic area, a pumpkin theater that puts on regular shows and an obstacle course for athletic visitors.
The town of Dahlonega in Georgia is famous for being the site of a major American gold rush, and these days tourists come to the area to participate in the so-called Gold Fever Tours run here. These tours take in the town’s Gold Museum, gem panning demonstrations and two nearby gold mines. While the tour runs much of the year, visitors who head here in October can get involved in the town’s Gold Rush Days, held on the third weekend of the month. At these events, held in Dahlonega’s Public Square and Historic District, hundreds of exhibitors and vendors will be on hand to help celebrate the discovery of gold in the town.
