Most people conjure up images of Mickey Mouse as soon as they hear the word Orlando. Though Disney World is not actually inside Orlando city limits, most people visit the theme park by arriving in the city first. Besides its proximity toDisney World and other theme parks, Orlando offers a bustling atmosphere with many cultural, shopping and entertainment attractions.
Call Amtrak at 1-800-USA-RAIL or visit Amtrak's web site in the "Resources" section below. On the web site, you can book your train reservations via Amtrak's Fare Finder. You can also navigate the site if you have a PDA, Blackberry or other handheld device.
If you ordered your tickets online or by phone, pick them up at a ticket agent or at one of the Quik-Trak kiosks that can be found at many Amtrak locations (you'll need to enter your reservation number). If you've booked your trip far in advance, you can also request that your tickets be mailed to you. Because of high demand, it's advisable that you book your trip many months in advance.
Prepare for a long train ride. Your trip will be between 17 and 19 hours in duration, so make sure the kids pack their Game Boys.
Know that this train route offers reserved coach seating. Advance travel reservations are required, due to the long duration of the trip.
Expect to have access to a full-service dining car on the train. You'll need to pay for meals if you have a coach seat; sleeping accommodation reservations have the price of meals already included.
Rent a car to travel in Orlando, Florida. Most rental car companies are located near the airport.
Take the trolley. The Lymmo Bus offers free service in the downtown area, while the I-Ride Trolley (actually modified buses) offers low fares and transportation to tourist attractions
Catch a bus. Orlando's Lynx bus service offers 60 routes and fairly low fares.
Hail or call a taxi. Several different taxis serve the Orlando area.
