The National Historical Homes of Oregon

The National Register of Historic Places reviews nominated historic locations and lists those destinations worthy of recognition and preservation. In Oregon, a multitude of houses dispersed throughout the state are listed with the register.

  1. McLoughlin House

    • Moved from its original location near the Willamette River to be situated atop a bluff, the McLoughlin House was home to Dr. John McLoughlin. Dr. McLoughlin is referred to as “The Father of Oregon” and in 1941 his house was designated as a National Historical Site to preserve his legacy.

    Irvington, Oregon

    • Twenty-eight different homes in Irvington are on the National Register of Historic Places, 11 of which offer public tours. The numerous set of historic houses in Irvington include buildings used as homes, apartments and businesses. One home is the August Olson house that was built in 1910 and was listed with the register in 1996.

    Salem, Oregon

    • Salem, Oregon is home to six different residences listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Asahel Bush and Dr. Luke A. Port houses are both located on Mission Street while the John D. Boon and Jason Lee houses are on Mill Street.
