Westchester, located less than 30 minutes west of Chicago, is a small village bordered by interstates 290 and 294. Minutes from Chicago O'Hare Airport and Brookfield Zoo, Westchester is one of several suburbs of Chicago. While Westchester proper does not have any sushi restaurants, the surrounding towns offer numerous sushi options from small intimate restaurants to hip, young chains only minutes away in Oak Park, Forest Park and Lombard.
Fifteen minutes east of Westchester in Oak Park is one of five area Sushi House restaurants. Opened in 2008, the restaurant has several unique features including two tatami rooms, which are small booths with a sliding door for privacy. The basement of the restaurant houses the Dragon Lounge with live entertainment on the weekends. Sushi House offers 50 different types of rolls, along with salads, tempura and sushi. Specialties include the Chicago Fire Roll made with tuna, then battered and cooked, and the Turtle Roll with BBQ eel and shrimp. Party trays are also available. Other nearby locations include La Grange and Westmount.
Also in Oak Park, Sen Sushi's modern decor and intimate dining space offer a unique dining experience. Seating only 30 patrons, Sen Sushi combines imported Japanese fish with locally caught selections. Bento boxes, traditional sushi and tempura are all on the menu, along with specialty rolls such as Ghost Ship Maki with tuna, sweet potato and cream cheese with a panko coating. Several premium sakes are on the menu, along with fruit infused martinis.
Coral Sushi & Thai, 10 minutes northeast of Westchester in Forest Park, offers Japanese and Thai cuisine. Located on Madison Street, the main business district in Forest Park, Coral Sushi & Thai has an extensive menu with sushi and roll selections as well as a variety of specialty rolls and combinations. Signature rolls include Cheesy Veggie and the White Coral roll with shrimp tempura and asparagus. The restaurant also offers a full selection of Thai dishes and cooked to order Japanese specialties.
West of Westchester in Lombard, RA Sushi Bar and Restaurant is located in The Shops at Butterfield in Yorktown Plaza. This chain of restaurants has locations across the country and is known for its hip, young atmosphere. Happy hour at RA is marked by half-price selections and punctuated with popular music. Unique food offerings include pineapple cheese wantons, apple teriyaki salmon and the Viva Las Vegas Roll.
