Lafayette, in southern Louisiana, is known for its Cajun style of cooking, but those not interested in local fare can find other dining experiences, including Japanese restaurants. Tsunami Sushi is a fine-dining restaurant designed in a contemporary style located on the top floor of a building and overlooking the river. Aside from standard sushi rolls, nigiri and sashimi, the restaurant also serves cooked entrees, as well as Asian-inspired specials prepared by award-winning chefs on Fridays and Saturdays. The restaurant has received numerous awards, including "Best Sushi Bar" from 2005 to 2007 by "The Times" of Acadiana. Specialties are the sunflower (thin sashimi slices of seared tuna in ponzu sauce served with black tobiko and quail egg), escolar kazan (escolar sashimi served with a creamy kazan sauce) and chirashi (assorted fresh sashimi served over a bowl of sushi rice). A sushi sampler of four, eight and 16 pieces is available, as are appetizers, soups and salads, and bento boxes.

Sakura Sushi Bar & Grill is a small, family-owned, neighborhood sushi bar that serves sushi and grilled specialties. Sushi and sashimi are available a la carte. Some of the house special rolls are the 256 (shrimp tempura, snow crab, avocado, seared salmon with chef's sauces), wasabi roll (salmon, tuna, yellowtail, wasabi, chef's sauce), big daddy roll (spicy tuna, escolar, snow crab, avocado, and tempura flakes wrapped with soy paper and covered with fresh tuna), Sakura roll (cucumber, tuna, salmon, yellowtail, white fish, and masago with chef's sauce), and kimono roll (eel tempura, asparagus, avocado, chili with chef's sauce). Appetizers, soups and salads and sushi combination dinners are also served.

Oishi Sushi is a small restaurant with only six tables, a small menu and sushi prepared by a sushi chef. Specialty rolls include the Katherine roll (snow crab paste with fresh salmon), Bobby roll (snow crab paste with spicy salmon), lobster roll (fried lobster with snow crab and asparagus), Brandon roll (fried soft shell crab, snow crab paste and avocado), and father's roll (crawfish, cream cheese and jalapeño). You can also order from the a la carte sushi menu. Rice bowls are served during lunch and combination dinners, which are served with miso soup or house salad with ginger dressing, are available. Appetizers and soups and salads are also served.
