North Georgia's mountain area boasts rivers, gorges, waterfalls and historic sites, making it attractive to tourists. State parks, vineyards and wineries, battlefields and mountain festivals are just some of the attractions available in the area.
Built to resemble a Bavarian alpine village, Helen, Georgia features cobblestone streets, quaint shops and restaurants and bed and breakfasts. The Chattahoochee River flows through the middle of Helen and tubing is a favorite activity among tourists. Other nearby attractions include Unicoi State Park, the Russell-Brasstown Scenic Byway and Three Sisters Vineyard.
The Appalachian Foothills Parkway offers a scenic drive with mountain views of wildflowers, waterfalls and old southern buildings. Chickamauga Battlefield and Museum is also a favorite attraction among visitors. Cloudland Canyon State Park and Tallulah Gorge State Park offer spectacular mountain views and many other activities including mountain biking and fly fishing.
The Mountain Heritage Festival in Blairsville celebrates Appalachian history with arts and crafts, bluegrass music, a Civil War cooking demonstration and Native American exhibits. The Georgia Mountain Fall Festival in Hiawassee was chosen as a "Top 20 Event" by the Southeast Tourism Society. The festival includes music, food, a flower show, a pioneer village and a moonshine exhibit.
